Our Mission statement is:
We, the Sisters of Nazareth, aim to share the love of God through our ministries of care and education and our openness to respond to the needs of the time.
"What so ever you do to the least of my people you do to me."
Words of Jesus Christ (Matthew 25:40)
And that is what we try to do, to respond to the needs of others in a loving and caring manner. As needs change, we change. We came to California in 1924 at the invitation of The Most Reverend John Joseph Cantwell, Archbishop of Los Angeles, to care for and educate orphans. Our first House was in San Diego, where we provided a home for children.
Today, we have four Nazareth Houses in California, offering a broad range of assisted living services to our residents. Nazareth School in San Diego offers preschool through 8th grade education to more than 300 students. To learn more about our Houses and School, please select from the menu on the right.
Regardless of the work we do, our Mission remains the same -- to form communities animated by Love, Justice, Hospitality, Respect, Compassion and Patience. And this community involves every one.
We cherish our coworkers, many of whom have worked with us side-by-side for more than 30 years. We cherish our residents, many with parents who also received care in our homes. We cherish our Sisters, many retired after a life-time of generous service. We cherish our families and benefactors, whose generosity is etched on our buildings and in our hearts.
We try to approach each day with open and generous hearts, knowing that there is always one more thing to learn, one more person to care for, one more caregiver to welcome and one more lesson that life needs to teach us.
We understand the art of caring is not only in what we do, but in how we do it. And, we must relearn this each day with each person we meet. We are pilgrims and we journey together in hope.
