Nazareth Care is the operating arm of the Sisters of Nazareth.
Nazareth Care Australasia is a service provider organisation which is responsible for providing services for the aged across the Australasian region. Nazareth Care is owned by, and accountable to, the Sisters of Nazareth, and the Sisters are an integral part of Nazareth Care and its work. Everyone in Nazareth Care is an agent of the Sisters' Ministry, and must uphold the Mission, Philosophy and Core Values of the Sisters.
Nazareth Care Australasia was established in 2010. The region comprises two governance structures – the Nazareth Care Australia Board, and the Trustees of Nazareth Care Charitable Trust New Zealand. However the Board members work as a single Board as a way of enhancing the governance of all Nazareth Care services across Australia and New Zealand.
The Nazareth Care Australasia Board comprises a majority of Sisters along with Lay directors appointed for their specific skills and expertise. The Nazareth Care Board is chaired by Regional Superior Sister Margaret O'Keefe.
Nazareth Care has a leasehold arrangement with the Sisters of Nazareth whereby it leases the Nazareth House facilities to provide services to the community.
Our services are provided through five Nazareth Houses in Australia located in Ballarat, Camberwell, Geraldton, Tamworth, and Wynnum. The Nazareth House Christchurch facility was demolished as a result of the 2010-11 earthquakes, and a new community of care is now being rebuilt.
Currently Nazareth Houses offer residential services. However our aspiration for our region is to establish “Communities of Care” on each of our sites which will also offer the option of independent living units as well as residential and specialised aged care services.
All our facilities and services are accredited, and meet all the outcomes and standards required by regulatory authorities.
The philosophy and core values of Nazareth Care are strongly aligned to those of the Sisters of Nazareth. Around 700 staff are employed by Nazareth Care in this region.
