Children’s Learning & Development

Our aim is that the children learn with enjoyment, using free play and planned activities with a range of learning experiences to develop their skills working towards the early learning goals. Our staff provide an environment which allows a wide range of choices, and they also support the children in developing independence and self confidence.

EYFS (Early Years Foundation Stage):

The purpose and aims of the EYFS is to provide the best possible start in life for all children and to support them to fulfil their full potential. The early years of a child’s life is very important to us as children become more familiar with things around them they become interested and discover for themselves ways of learning and developing and to make the most of their abilities and talents as they grow. Each child has an individual learning journey which is a summary of a child’s achievements. Every child’s learning takes an individual path based on their own individual interests and experiences. The record shows progress to help identify the next steps a child will need to take to achieve the early learning goals in all areas of learning and development. The key person shares a summary of their child’s progress between the ages of two and three.

Following the EYFS framework we follow the principles and four guiding themes these are:-

  • A Unique Child

Recognises that every child is a competent learner from birth who can be resilient, capable, confident and self-assured.
  • Positive Relationships

Describes how children learn to be strong and independent from a base of loving and secure relationships with parents and/or key person.
  • Enabling Environments

Explains that the environment plays a key role in supporting and extending children’s development and learning.
  • Learning and Development

Recognises that children develop and learn in different ways and at different rates and that all areas of learning and development are equally important and inter-connected with the Characteristics of learning.
